Mi reseña del libro Percy Jackson: el ladrón del rayo

Revisando la estantería de mi sobrina, encontré otra saga que llamó mi atención. Se trata de Percy Jackson de Rick Riordan; más ahora que está de moda una serie de Disney sobre este chico: mitad hombre, mitad Dios.

Me gustan mucho los libros con este tipo de historias mágicas y mitológicas 😍; ya había visto hace algunos años la película de Percy Jackson y me atrajo la trama. Ahora, quise aventurarme con esta saga y conocer cada detalle antes de ver la nueva serie: Percy Jackson y los Dioses del Olimpo. La historia hace un repaso por la historia, específicamente por la mitología griega que reúne los mitos y leyendas de dioses, héroes, ceremonias y cultos de la antigüedad.

El primer libro comienza con la historia de un adolescente que es acusado por el gran Zeus, dios del Cielo, de robar su rayo maestro y si no lo devuelve antes del solsticio de verano, podría causar una guerra entre los Dioses del Olimpo: Zeus, Poseidón y Hades.

Sin saber porqué, Percy se ve involucrado en situaciones inexplicables en la escuela, persecuciones extrañas y la “muerte” inesperada de su madre a manos del legendario minotauro (un ser mitológico mitad hombre y mitad toro) por lo que se ve obligado a entrar a un campamento de verano en el que se reúnen todos los hijos de los dioses con mortales, es decir, los llamados héroes de las leyendas, que entrenan tal cual como lo hizo Hércules para pelear con los monstruos y proteger al mundo.

Going through my niece's bookshelf, I found another saga that caught my attention. It is Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan; more so now that a Disney series about this guy is in fashion: half man, half God.

I really like books with this kind of magical and mythological stories 😍; I had already seen some years ago the Percy Jackson movie and I was attracted by the plot. Now, I wanted to venture with this saga and know every detail before watching the new series: Percy Jackson and the Gods of Olympus. The story takes a look at history, specifically Greek mythology which brings together the myths and legends of gods, heroes, ceremonies and cults of antiquity.

The first book begins with the story of a teenager who is accused by the great Zeus, god of Heaven, of stealing his master thunderbolt and if he does not return it before the summer solstice, it could cause a war between the Gods of Olympus: Zeus, Poseidon and Hades.

Without knowing why, Percy gets involved in inexplicable situations at school, strange chases and the unexpected "death" of his mother at the hands of the legendary minotaur (a mythological being half man and half bull) so he is forced to enter a summer camp where all the children of the gods meet with mortals, that is, the so-called heroes of the legends, who train as Hercules did to fight the monsters and protect the world.

En este lugar Percy descubre que es el hijo de Poseidón, el dios de los mares, quien le concede una importante misión: evitar la guerra de los Olímpicos. Con la ayuda de su mejor amigo, Grover –un sátiro – y Annabeth, la hija de la diosa Atenea, comienzan esta aventura en búsqueda del rayo perdido de Zeus.

En la escuela “normal”, Percy es consolidado como el perdedor, incluso es víctima de molestias y bullying. Sufre de Trastorno Hiperactivo del Déficit de Atención (THDA) y dislexia que impide que se concentre en sus deberes; a menudo es castigado por sus maestros. En el mundo de los dioses, Percy es un héroe, es el hijo de uno de los 3 grandes del Olimpo, tiene poderes sobranaturales que le permiten controlar el agua.

En cada página abundan las descripciones de personajes, escenarios y ciudades norteamericanas y de referencias históricas y literarias que invitan a la imaginación. El libro está escrito en primera persona, es decir, el mismo Percy Jackson te cuenta su propia aventura con mucho humor, rebeldía y muy temperamental.

Resulta que esta historia está inspirada en el hijo mayor del autor, Patrick, a quien le fue diagnosticado con THDA y dislexia. El autor, un escritor considerado el número 1 en ventas por el New York Times y especializado en historia mitológica griega, romana y egipcia, le contaba sobre los mitos griegos a sus hijos como un cuento para dormir, hasta que un día su hijo le pidió crear nuevas historias, así nació Percy Jackson. Durante la historia, Percy tiene que lidiar con estos trastornos, aceptarlos y descubrir quién es realmente. ¡Una emocionante aventura! 😀

Tengo en mis manos el libro 2 y 3 de la saga: Percy Jackson: el mar de los monstruos y Percy Jackson: la maldición del titán respectivamente. Veamos cómo sigue esta aventura 😀.

It turns out that this story is inspired by the author's eldest son, Patrick, who was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. The author, a New York Times #1 bestselling author specializing in Greek, Roman and Egyptian mythological history, used to tell his children about Greek myths as a bedtime story, until one day his son asked him to create new stories, and Percy Jackson was born. During the story, Percy has to deal with these upheavals, accept them and discover who he really is. an exciting adventure! 😀

I got my hands on book 2 and 3 of the saga: Percy Jackson: the sea of monsters and Percy Jackson: the titan's curse respectively. Let's see how this adventure continues 😀.
