Ho ho ho-liday dog treats are on the menu today, and we’re ready to spice things up!

Yep, it’s time for my extra special (and ultra delish) PB & ginger snaps for dogs!

I’ve recently found out that Coco is a fan of ginger, so I have concocted a healthy grain-free ginger dog treats recipe. It includes not only ginger, but one of her favorite ingredients of all time – peanut butter. I call these little beauties PB & G-inger Snaps (see what I did there, PB & G? Clever right?)

Can dogs have ginger snaps?

No. Regular ginger snaps are bad for dogs because of their high fat and sugar content, which can lead to upset stomachs, heart disease and obesity in dogs.

The good news? While humanginger snaps are not safe for dogs to eat, this ginger snaps dog treat recipe is completely dog-friendly as it contains only pooch-safe ingredients!

That being said, these homemade dog treats are just that – treats only. They should be given in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

Is ginger goodfor a dog?

Wondering if ginger is toxic for dogs? Well you don’t have to worry, because dogs can eat ginger in small quantities on a regular basis.

Ginger has a host of health benefits for dogs, and contains anti-viral, non-toxic, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Being rich in antioxidants, it can support your dog’s immune system.

Ginger is also gentle on dog’s stomachs and promotes healthy bowels. It’s one of the many reasons why ginger is a superfood for senior dogs!

How to make ginger snaps for dogs

Preheat oven to 165C.

1. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl and form a ball with the dough.

2. Roll the dough out until flat and use a cookie cutter to cut out the individual treats.I didn’t have a miniature cookie cutter on hand, so I just used a jar cap as a makeshift cutter. Feel free to get creative!

3. Place your treats onto your baking tray and bake for 25 minutes.

4. Turn oven off after the 25 minutes are done and leave the treats in the oven for 45 more minutes, or until crisp.

Enjoy!

Coconut flour doesn’t suit to my dog. Is there any other flour that I can use beside coconut?

      Hi Ritu,
I would suggest experimenting with all almond flour, or perhaps rice flour. 🙂

Can you just use whole wheat flour instead if the almond or coconut?

My dogs love this dog treat, but I used 3/4 cup of water as opposed to the 1/4 cup as stated in the recipe. Anyone else have a similar challenge?

I can’t handle Almond flour due to sensitivity, can it be replaced with another non-gluten flour?

These are in the oven as we speak, the kitchen smells heavenly. I did have to add a bit more peanut butter and water to make it all stick together. Here in the U.S., the oven temp is 350. I followed the directions to a T and they came out wonderfully. My shepherd woofed one down. Almond flour is dang expensive though!! 🙂

I added extra water and peanut butter, and finally 2 eggs to pull the dough together…rolled, cut and baked and they are a huge hit! I ate one and they aren’t bad…our Ruby LOVES them!
