Types Of Fire Security For Schools

When parents send their children to school, they trust and believe that the school they're taking their kids to is safe. They do not expect their kids to get hurt in any way. In fact, parents want to believe that their children's school is the safest place for them aside from home. In a bid to enhance security at both private and public schools, the government has put in place guidelines to help ensure child safety at school. The administrators of public schools and owners of private schools are required to ensure all those guidelines are adhered to. Fire security for schools is one of the most important areas of concern for all the stakeholders.

Types of Fire Security for Schools

Fire Extinguishers

Every school is required to have multiple fire extinguishers at strategic locations within the school compound. These extinguishers should be inspected regularly and refilled where necessary. There must be a compressed carbon dioxide fire extinguisher as well as a foam fire extinguisher to ensure that all kinds of fires can be put out regardless of the cause.

Smoke Detectors

Prevention of fires is better than putting out a fire. That is why every classroom, laboratory, washroom and office in a school needs to have smoke detectors. Whenever you see smoke, there must be a fire. When smoke detectors go off, an alarm will be sounded for appropriate action to be taken.

Fire Alarms

When there is a fire within the school, there must be a fire alarm system to warn all the students and staff as well as the authorities. Nowadays, there are addressable fire alarms. The main advantage of having this type of fire alarm system is that when the alarm goes off, the local fire department is notified immediately.

Sprinklers

Fire extinguishers are only effective when there is someone around to use them to put out the fire. It is important to note that trying to put out a fire is risky, so students should go to safety instead of putting their lives at risk. To ensure that fires are put out automatically without putting anyone at risk, every school needs to have sprinklers. Experts should be brought on board to design and install the sprinkler system to ensure it is 100 percent effective in putting out fires before they cause any serious damage to school property or harm to the students. Another major advantage of sprinklers is that they can put out fires even when there is nobody around.

Schools need to be inspected on a regular basis to ensure all the security systems and recommended security protocols have been put in place to ensure that schools are safe for both students and staff. School administrators are advised to always be on the lookout for innovative fire suppression systems that can further improve safety at their schools. For instance, they can consider watermist and gaseous fire suppression. These two systems have the added advantage of being able to put out different classes of fire.
